Starter Fluid vs Diesel Engine

2004 GMC Sierra

This is a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 with a 6.6 liter diesel engine. When the vehicle first came to us it had half the engine in the bed of the truck. As the story goes, the truck owner ran the vehicle out of fuel and a helpful neighbor offered to help get the engine running again. After several attempts, the neighbor came out with a can of starter fluid.  Then came some loud noises and the engine locked up, say good by engine. After the engine was disassembled, several bent push rods and bent valves were found. It all laid to rest  in the bed of the truck for several years.

So the moral to this story is to NEVER use starter fluid on a diesel engine!
